Tracking down an activity that holds your child’s interest is easy in Miami, where kid-friendly museums, arts, entertainment and attractions abound. The best things to do in Miami with kids are actually activities the whole family will enjoy—not just the little ones in the bunch.

From visits to the best Miami attractions and spending the day getting splashed by some marine life to day trips that put them face-to-face with wild animals, there’s plenty to keep children entertained. This sprawling, high-tech museum connects people of all ages with science through a range of inspiring programming—some of which is even bilingual. Exhibitions such as the “MeLab” let kids learn about health by using their own bodies to conduct experiments, while the aquarium, which houses all sorts of sea creatures, teaches them about marine life.

Why kids love it: Nearly every exhibition provides some sort of hands-on opportunity—kids can touch, smell and see their way to a greater understanding of science. (Keep in mind that some exhibitions remain touch-free zones.)

2. Miami Children’s Museum

4. Venetian Pool

Possibly the most beautiful swimming pool in the world, even if it is jam-packed on hot days. It combines an impossibly idyllic setting (tropical foliage, waterfalls, Italian architectural touches) with freshwater, replenished nightly in summer months from a subterranean aquifer. Luckily for Joe Public, it’s open to the masses seven days a week, but it is perhaps best enjoyed when not overrun with toddlers and boom-box blasts (avoid weekends).

Why kids love it: The shallow pool and cool grotto provide hours of entertainment for water-loving kiddos—plus, the on-site café serves ice cream, pizza and french fries

Why parents love it: One of the most pristine public bathing areas, Venetian Pool takes the stress out of planning an outing—it boasts clean showers, lockers, free parking and a place to grab a bite

9. Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park

Occupying the southern tip of Key Biscayne, this park’s wide beaches regularly make the national top 10 lists. But this is more than just a place to catch some rays: there’s history, wildlife and plenty of activities too. Covered pavilions are available for picnics, and the Lighthouse Café offers good food.

Why kids love it: Kids will love climbing to the top of the 65-foot-tall Cape Florida Lighthouse, exploring native wildlife and experiencing outdoor activities like kayaking and cycling

Why kids love it: There’s plenty of room to run around in the cavernous exhibition spaces and plenty of interactive “touch” elements. Unlike other museums, there’s also a cool, vibey soundtrack playing in the background and you don’t have to worry about using your “indoor voice.”

18. Skatebird

This multifaceted venue is a 32,000-square-foot skate park with an outdoor street-style plaza for traditional tricks and a covered pump track ideal for when it rains but you still want to practice on wheels.

Why kids love it: While the space is perfect for professional skateboarders and rollerbladers, it also accommodates beginners and even young kickboard scooter riders. The park holds regular skate camps and classes and offers memberships for frequent riders.

Why parents love it: Located in El Portal, a few blocks north of the 79th Street Causeway and just west of Biscayne Boulevard, there are small retail shops that line the pump track including a barbershop, tattoo parlor, streetwear fashion and galleries.

No kid will turn down a visit to Zoo Miami. The animals here are a draw—lions, zebras, giraffes and elephants, to name a few—and so are the splash zones and activity areas. Installations move along with you. You can manipulate the work with your fingers. And there are surprises waiting to be discovered with a wave of your hand throughout the two-story space.

25. Flying Squirrel

Parrot Jungle Island, which occupied this site for more than 60 years, flew the coop in 2001 to a $50-million complex on Watson Island. Why kids love it: After you’ve strolled flower-lined trails, fed the koi and admired the wildlife on Swan Lake, your kids will appreciate the reward of cooling off at Pinecrest Gardens’ Splash ‘N Play area.

Why parents love it:  Approximately one thousand times less overwhelming (and expensive) than a full-blown waterpark, this splash pad boasts plenty of sprays and misters and will only set you back $5 (included with the price of park admission).

28. Fruit & Spice Park

If your child shows interest in horticulture and local wildlife, take them to Fruit & Spice Park in Homestead, where they’ll find all sorts of exotic plants and trees that produce more than 500 varieties fruits, vegetables, herbs and nuts. The park’s 150-plus types of mangos are the favorite of the bunch. 

Why kids love it: Kids can try the park’s bounty of produce during one of many fruit-centric events that take place annually—like the popular Asian Cultural Festival in March

Traveling to Dallas with your children in tow and wondering how to keep them entertained? No worries. Whether you’ve got an active toddler, a curious tween or a hard-to-please teen, the city is jam-packed with kid-centric things to do that even parents might enjoy too.  

For starters, the downtown area alone is home to a plethora of family-friendly attractions, one of the most popular ones being the Perot Museum of Nature and Science, which showcases enough mind-blowing exhibits to keep both kids and grown-ups fascinated for hours. Located just steps away from the Perot is Klyde Warren Park, a 5-acre deck park that not only features an awesome children’s space, it also has a games area with foosball and ping-pong tables plus hosts free events like concerts and movie screenings.

And though teens can be a tough audience to please, they certainly won’t have any issues with boredom while they swing their way through the zip-line obstacle course at Trinity Forest Adventure Park.

Want to take your kids on a fantastical voyage into another realm? Then Dreamscape Immersive will be like nothing they’ve ever experienced before. Located on the second level of NorthPark Center, Dreamscape is basically a cross between a cinema and theme park ride, where with the aid of body-mapping and real-time motion capture technology, participants have the ability to interact as full-body avatars within a virtual, full sensory 3D environment. Tickets are $19.99, and each adventure, from beginning to end, takes approximately 35 minutes (including check-in and gearing up). Situated inside the Frisco Discovery Center, the National Videogame Museum (NVM) is a veritable retro gamer’s nirvana, dedicated solely to the history of the videogame industry. The brainchild of three longtime gamers, the museum features a mind-blowing collection of videogame memorabilia, including the largest working Pong game in the world. And not only can visitors see all the great games from the past, but they can also play them. Donkey Kong, Space Invaders, they’re all here as well as an 80’s style classic gaming arcade with gaming stations for you to go head-to-head with family and friends. Talk about a blast from the past.

This global, indoor theme-park chain at Stonebriar Centre mall in Frisco takes edutainment to a new level by offering children the chance to role-play more than 100 professions in a scaled-down replica city. Spanning 100,000 sqft over two floors, kids ages 4-14 can immerse themselves into a variety of real-life activities, ranging from flying airplanes on flight simulators to fighting fires and recording Spotify podcasts. And for every task acquired, kids earn a salary in kidZos (play currency) which can be used for toys and experiences inside KidZania. Oh, and did we mention there is also the opportunity to make your own pizzas and decorate cupcakes at the onsite eateries?

Boasting over 2,000 animals from roughly 400 species, the 106-acre Dallas Zoo is the largest and oldest zoological park in the state. But there’s more going on here than your usual walk-through animal exhibits. Most of the enclosures have been constructed to replicate the animals’ natural environments. Among them includes the 11-acre Giants of the Savanna, the only zoo exhibit in the United States to mix elephants with other species (think giraffes, cheetahs, zebras) in the same habitat. Along with a mini-train and a custom-made merry-go-round, there’s also a children’s zoo complete with interactive exhibits, a petting farm, and a nature-inspired swap shop where kids can exchange items. Daily presentations include animal encounters and a giraffe feeding experience.

Recommended for Things to Do with Kids because: The Zoo is a great place for all ages to get up close and personal with wildlife.

Consistently ranked as one of the top botanical gardens in the country, the Dallas Arboretum boasts 66-acres of landscaped gardens chock full of seasonal flowers, ornamental shrubs, trees and exotic plants. So, of course, this is a must-visit spot for horticultural enthusiasts, but it’s also a great place for children. In addition to a year-round calendar packed with family-friendly events, kids will especially love exploring the Rory Meyers Children Adventure Garden, an 8-acre oasis filled with water features, interactive exhibits, a treetop canopy walk and a two-story treehouse. Tip: Be sure to grab a scavenger hunt map at the information booth.

Nestled inside a massive refurbished warehouse in Dallas’ Historic West End District, this privately-owned aquatic wonderland is home to countless varieties of marine life from all over the world. In addition to stingrays, piranhas, electric eels, poison dart frogs and Orinoco crocodiles, the aquarium boasts a 20,000-gallon walk-through exhibit that includes a forty-foot long glassed-in tunnel filled with sharks that circle overhead. Visitors can also check out a lush three-level recreated South American rainforest as well as get up close and personal with manatees, giant river otters, three-toed sloths, penguins and more.

Highlights include a children’s museum with a dinosaur dig, an earthquake simulator, and a gallery of gems and minerals featuring a 5-foot geode. A good way to start is to take the external glass escalator up to the top and work your way down while enjoying the panoramic views of downtown Dallas. Whether you’re a science buff or just have a curious mind, this place is certain to fascinate visitors of any age.

Just minutes from downtown Dallas lies Trinity Forest Adventure Park, a seven-acre combination obstacle course and zip line park where families can soar, swing, scramble and climb to their heart’s content. Designed for ages four and over, the park boasts over twenty zip-lines (from 10′ to 75′ above ground) and 70 different elements (cargo nets, wobble bridges, tight ropes and the like) which are spread out over eight aerial obstacle courses, each with varying elevations and challenges. The courses are all self-guided to allow everyone to move at their own pace, but it’s important to watch your time since tickets are only valid for three hours.

Perched atop the Woodall Rodgers Freeway in the Dallas Arts District, this 5.2-acre linear park is considered one of Dallas’ premier community gathering spots, boasting everything from a butterfly garden to special areas allocated for kids, dogs, and playing games. Speaking of kids, the park is enlarging the children’s area to 18,000 square feet to make room for new state-of-the-art play equipment complete with a climbing tower, a climbing wall and spinning elements. Did we mention holiday events, musical performances, family film screenings,and food trucks?
