1. High Line Park
With a picture of New York’s monumental skyscrapers in mind, you might be surprised that there are quite a few parks in this city. Of course, in the first place – this is the famous Central Park. However, we want to talk about the less known, but no less interesting High Line Park. It is located in the western part of Manhattan and stretches from Hemsworth Street to West 34th Street. The peculiarity of the park is that it is laid out on the site of former railway tracks at a height of 10 meters above the ground. So this is not only a great opportunity to “ascend” above the noisy revival of New York streets, but also to enjoy an oasis of nature in the thick of the stone jungle.

The park is open from December to March from 07:00 to 19:00, from April to May from 07:00 to 22:00 and from June to September from 07:00 to 23:00. In October and November – from 07:00 to 22:00. Free admission.
Access to the park is via the entrances on Hemsworth Street, 14th, 16th, 18th, 20th, 26th and 28th Streets. You can find a complete list on the official website.
2. Life Underground
New York is undoubtedly a city with a rich cultural life: one trip is definitely not enough to visit all its museums and galleries! But few people know that in New York there is a free sculpture gallery, which is located … in the subway.

The 14th Street — 8th Avenue station of the New York subway houses the work of Brooklyn sculptor Tom Otterson called Life Underground. Funny little men with money bags instead of heads, crocodiles crawling out of sewer manholes, phantasmagoric toads and crayfish lying in wait for “money” midgets – the compositions will not leave anyone indifferent.
3. Whitney Museum of American Art
Would you like to visit New York and not visit at least some of its world famous museums? What are you kidding me?! If you are not one of those who think that modern American art is exclusively pop art, and would like to know more about it, then the Whitney Museum should definitely be on your list.

The Whitney Museum is located at 99 Gansevoort street. Opening hours: Mondays, Wednesdays and Sundays from 10:30 to 18:00, from Thursday to Saturday – from 10:30 to 22:00.
Tickets are $22 (adults) and $18 (students and seniors). Children under 18 years of age enter free.
4. New York Museum of Natural History
Even if you are not a fan of the movie “Night at the Museum” and any museums make you bored from childhood, do not refuse to look into the New York Museum of Natural History. It will be interesting for visitors of absolutely all ages!

Dinosaur skeletons, displays dedicated to ocean life and North American forests, birds and reptiles, a planetarium – and this is not a complete list of the museum’s permanent collection! And one more nice nuance: visitors can pay for the entrance as much as they see fit (although the declared ticket price is $22).
The Natural History Museum is located at 79th Street and Central Park West (Upper West Side).
5. Zoo
One of the most popular places for family (and not only) recreation in New York is the Central Park Zoo. Here the inhabitants of both the American continent (bears, wolves, lynxes) and the fauna of the tropics (primates, reptiles and birds) are represented, and in the pool you can see sea lions.

Opening hours: daily from 10:00 to 16:30 from November 1, 2015 to March 24, 2016. Admission fee – $18 (adult), $13 (children, 3-12 years old), $15 (seniors over 65 years old). Children under two years old are free.
6. Top of the Rock
Seeing New York from the 70th floor of Rockefeller Center, if not from a bird’s eye view, is worth it for an impressive panorama of the city (especially in the morning and evening, when the city is especially beautiful). The Top of the Rock observation deck is the perfect place for this. This is a lesser-known analogue of the Empire State Building, but it allows you to see the same panorama – and even a little more.

The site is open daily from 08:00 to 24:00. Tickets cost $32 (adults), $26 (children 6-12) and $30 (over 60s).
For children under 6 years old, admission is free.

7. The Cloisters Museum
When in New York, be sure to check out the Cloisters Museum. In addition to the fact that there is an interesting collection dedicated to the art and architecture of Medieval Europe, the building itself was built from fragments of medieval abbeys, taken brick by brick from Europe to America.

After admiring the old tapestries, sculptures and paintings in the museum halls, take a walk through the museum gardens and sit in the shady courtyards, enjoying the atmosphere of antiquity.
Note : The Cloisters Museum is a branch of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, so the visitor himself determines the entrance fee here, as in the Metropolitan (it can be at least $ 1).
8. Unusual free tours

9. Socrates Park

In summer, film screenings and light shows are also held here.

10. New York Wharfs
If you’re into the romantic spirit, with proper athletic training, you can veer off the beaten tourist trail and hit the water.
NYC State Piers (Downtown Boathouse Center and Long Island Community in Queens) offer free kayak rentals to cruise the Hudson. Well, if you haven’t kept oars since birth, don’t despair. There are also free 3-hour guided tours.

11. Museo del Barrio
Dilute your stay in the “heart of America” with a sip of Latin American flavor! The Museo del Barrio is the best place for this. 12. Wave Hill Botanical Garden
For those who have already had their fill of New York delights and frantic rhythm, longing for peace and quiet, we advise you to go to the Wave Hill Botanical Garden. It is located on the territory of the estate of the same name – the former country cottage of the beginning of the century. Now it is one of the favorite vacation spots of New Yorkers.

Stroll through the verdant alleys of the Landscape Park, wander through the woods, or relax in the shade of the oak at the edge of the pond. And if you get tired – folding garden chairs in shady arbors are at your service. What is not a place for unity with nature?
You can get to Wave Hill by taking the train from Grand Central Station (you need the one that goes in the direction of Poughkeepsie). Get off at Riverdale station, and from there the garden is within easy reach. For those who are especially lazy, a park bus runs from the station to the garden.

Albany is the capital of the state of New York and lies on the right bank of the Hudson River.
