Austin ISD received an overall B rating, 88 out of 100 points, from the Texas Education Agency’s 2022 accountability ratings. Ratings reports for districts across Texas were released by the TEA Aug. 15.
AISD received a B rating with 89 out of 100 points in both the 2017-18 and 2018-19 school years. The state agency did not release ratings for districts and schools in 2019-20 and 2020-21 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
According to an Aug. 15 AISD press release, 70% of the district’s schools received better grades this year than in 2019.
AISD Interim Superintendent Anthony Mays praised the district’s teachers and students for their resilience and performance.
“What we are celebrating today is a comeback story against incredible odds,” Mays said in the Aug. 15 press release. “Think about what these teachers, principals and kids accomplished. They did this during the pandemic.”
Find a campus
The interactive database above includes highlights from each AISD school’s rating. Overall district numbers can also be found labeled as Austin ISD.
Type in the name of a campus, and information for that school will come up in the database.
Major ratings metrics included in the database are the overall rating and score, the school progress rating and score, the student achievement rating and score, and the closing the gaps rating and score.
The overall rating and score measures preparedness of students for life after high school as well as how much they are learning in each grade and how well they are prepared for the next grade. School progress, student achievement and closing the gaps are all taken into account when calculating the overall rating and score.
School progress measures how students perform over time, and compares districts and schools to others with similar economic profiles. Student achievement largely focuses on State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness results and graduation rates. Closing the gaps involves a district or school’s ability to see to the success of all student groups.
A detailed breakdown of the calculation methods can be found on the TEA website.
