Brief description: what is a restaurant manager?
The nuances of the tasks that the vacancy of a restaurant manager implies depend on the institution’s policy. In some of them, the administrator is entrusted with the duty to meet visitors, in other establishments the manager works directly only with VIP clients, in some restaurants he remains “in the shadows” at all, managing internal processes. In all cases, the administrator can be involved in resolving conflict situations when they arise.
Profession features
A restaurant manager is the main person after the top management of a food service establishment or chain. Sometimes this position is combined with the post of director, but more often they are still separated. The manager is mainly engaged in “internal kitchen”, that is, he solves all internal issues, and the director specializes in leadership, taking into account external circumstances. Sometimes a restaurant has two or more managers, between whom responsibility for organizing internal processes is shared. In general, the main responsibilities of a restaurant manager are:
- Organizing the work of restaurant employees, drawing up their work schedules and vacation schedules.
- Development of internal corporate culture, sending employees to training programs if necessary, searching for new personnel, personnel certification.
- Regularly check the technical condition of the equipment and arrange for its repair/replacement if necessary.
- Ensuring the availability of stocks of material resources, their control and timely replenishment.
- Record keeping.
- Monitoring compliance with fire safety, labor protection, sanitary norms and rules.
- Participation in the formation of the range of dishes and services of the restaurant, including taking into account the analysis of the current market situation, customer needs and offers from competing establishments.
- Quality control of the supplied material resources, as well as goods and services provided by the establishment.
The restaurant manager is also responsible for the restaurant’s image, and is almost always involved in advertising campaigns (although a professional marketer or an entire marketing department may assist him in this). If shortcomings are found in the work of the institution, negative reviews from visitors, he is engaged in solving these problems.
Pros and cons of the restaurant manager profession

- Status position.
