About Us

The Best Care and Education, Each and Every Day.

About us

Brian and Carol Duprey

In 1997

Little Angels Early Learning Center was started as a home child care in Hampden in 1997 by Carol Duprey. Carol was looking to stay at home with her newest daughter Angel, but couldn’t afford to. She opened a child care in her home and named the child care after Angel. She took exceptional care of 12 children in her home until 2000.

In 2000

In 2000 the child care was moved inside Bangor Baptist Church and continued to grow. In November of 2002, the center opened up a new location at 416 Stillwater Avenue in Bangor.

“I knew it was a great location when I first looked at it. It is very convenient for people who work at the mall” – Carol Duprey

In 2003

In May of 2003, Little Angels expanded across the Penobscot to 136 River Road in Orrington. “I wanted a location that was convenient for parents who live in the Bucksport/Orrington/Brewer area. I am proud that we were able to bring high-quality center-based care to a small town like Orrington.”

This is our largest center and will accommodate 93 children. I love the oversized classrooms and large play area. It is very convenient for parents who live or work in Bangor, Hampden or Hermon

In 2004

In September of 2004 Little Angels opened up a new location at 189 Perry Road in Bangor. For over a decade, Building Blocks child care was located at this site, but when they closed their doors, Little Angels took over.

Carol and Angel Duprey

In June of 2005 Little Angels was approached to take over operations of Small World child care at 300 Forest Avenue in Bangor.

In 2005

I wanted to have a center exclusively for preschool-aged children, so this is what this location has become. We also wanted to offer parents who cannot afford center-based care a chance to attend a center at home child care prices.

In September of 2005, Little Angels expanded to the Pittsfield area and opened up at 18 Leighton Street, next to Sebasticook Valley Hospital. In partnership with the hospital, an abandoned nursing home was converted to state of the art, high tech child care, and preschool facilities.

In 2009

In 2009, due to a downturn in the economy, we consolidated our operations into three centers located in North, South, and Central Bangor. We continue year after year to be voted Bangor’s Best Daycare & Preschool; a testament to the fact that we have a very experienced hand-picked staff with vast amounts of experience.

In 2013

In March of 2013, Little Angels Early Learning Center took over operations of the former Old Town Learning Center in Old Town, Maine. A beautiful building in a great location, Little Angels Old Town is a welcomed addition to the Little Angels Early Learning Center Family. Located only minutes from downtown Old Town at 294 Center Street, this is a very convenient location for anyone living or working in the Old Town area.

Mission

Statement

The primary goal of Little Angels Early Learning Center is fostering the development of a positive self-image, instilling confidence, and the joy of learning and socializing in all our students.

Our programs focus on developing physical, emotional, social, and cognitive skills through a well organized, structured, curriculum designed to stimulate the children’s creativity, imagination, and independence.

The development of each child’s self-esteem and sense of responsibility is our principal objective. Little Angels Daycare and Preschool understands that children naturally desire to learn and explore at a very young age. We strive to enhance this curiosity while encouraging the children to develop a strong sense of pride and achievement.

Little Angels Early Learning Center is the largest child care organization in Central Maine. Being the largest has not diminished our ability to cater to the needs of every child.

Children deserve the best, and that is what every child receives each day at Little Angels Early Learning Center.

WHAT OUR LOVING STAFF HAVE TO SAY

I started working for Little Angel’s Early Learning Center about 6 years ago. Although I left after about 8 months, I recently found out that you’ll always find your way back home, so I decided to come back! This place of employment feels like family and spending everyday (Monday-Friday) with my work family is amazing. Having a piece of a child’s development is a huge piece of why I love to do what I do. Seeing a child master a challenging skill, learn a new thing and watching their eyes light up is the best thing I could ever ask for. Everyday I’m greeted with smiles from staff, children and their family members. This job has become more than just a job to me. This has become my home away from home and I am extremely grateful.

Janell Martin

I originally came to Little Angels through a friend’s suggestion. I love kids, so I decided I’d give it a try. My original plan was to work there a year at most. I have now been with Little Angels for over four years. Through this company, I have grown into a person I never thought I would be, but it’s definitely for the better. I used to be more reserved around people I didn’t know, and I didn’t like to socialize with anyone outside of my family if I didn’t have to. Now, I love to make plans with my coworkers and discovered new lifelong friends through the company as well. You always have someone you can count on for anything around you, and we all truly treat one another like family. Coming to Little Angels is a decision I will never regret.

      Where Stephen King lives

Stephen King is the King of Horrors long recognized by the world. Everything that his hand or mind touches becomes unique, becomes attractive to fans of the genre. The famous King family home in Bangor, Maine was no exception.

History of the Stephen King House

Stephen King was born in Portland, but b o lived most of his life in Bangor – a city that, of course, existed before him, but gained wide popularity precisely thanks to the writer’s work. King often mentioned certain Bangor places in his works, and when films were made based on the King’s books, a wider audience of viewers saw the local beauties.

Today, Bangor is also famous for being the location of the writer’s favorite home – an attractive mansion with an unusual fence, located in a residential area not far from the center. In the neighborhood there are also houses of not the most ordinary people. For the most part, these are the estates of Bangor people with a high level of income, who are very sensitive to the unusual neighborhood – they try not to talk about where and when you can see the writer or his family members live. At the same time, the peculiarity of the house lies in the fact that it is absolutely open to the views of passers-by. Moreover, the writer’s house with a gargoyle on the gate is actively included in various tourist routes (for example, the “Stephen King’s Derry” route organized by SK Tours).

The building itself, which today enjoys such popularity among Kingomaniacs, was built in 1858 and for a long time was considered quite ordinary and did not stand out among others. The history of the house as a mansion of Stephen King began in 1979-1980 – it was then that the writer in love with Bangor and his wife moved to this city.

Years later, Stephen explained his choice as follows: his family liked the building very much because it unusually allowed them to find solitude if necessary or immersed them in the turmoil of life in the center of a small city. At the same time, he noted that the house did not accept new owners immediately: the rooms seemed cold to them for a long time, the animals tried to avoid separate rooms, and the children were convinced that ghosts lived in the “towers” attached to the house.

Only eight months after the move, Stephen noticed positive changes: the children began to play in places that they had previously feared, and the wife and the cat began to spend evenings reading books on the couch in “cold” rooms. Thus began the deep connection of the King family with the house. Seeing positive changes, the head of the family followed the example of the household. He began to write his immortal works here, on the pages of which the fictional twin town of Bangor appeared. Later, when films were made based on these books and the popularity of the city increased, tourists began to come here – fans of the author.

Now the King of Horrors mansion in Bangor has hardly lost its former popularity, and just recently, in October 2019, it reminded of itself again. This time, in real life, outside of King’s work. The fact is that the family of the eminent writer turned to the authorities of Bangor for permission to turn the family residence at 47 West Broadway into the archive of Stephen King, as well as a retreat – a “shelter” for writers.

According to the latest information, the permit has been issued by the authorities. Not opposed were the locals, neighbors of the Master. This means that in the near future, by appointment, it will be possible to become one of five writers (their number is apparently determined by the number of bedrooms in the house), who will be able to get unlimited access to the author’s books and manuscripts for a while. Perhaps future visitors will have the chance to meet one of the heroes of Stephen King in the building, because, according to the author himself, inexplicable things sometimes happen in the house. So, before the release of the film “It” in 2017, a red balloon appeared by itself in one of the windows of the mysterious building, which was a sign of the imminent visit of Pennywise. Curious visitors, if they wish, will be able to see with their own eyes the very places that are mentioned in famous works.

      Appearances of Stephen King’s house

On the pages of many of his works, the King of Horrors somehow mentions individual places in Bangor, which becomes his home, and in “It” generally makes it the main location. True, it changes a little, including giving a new name and location.

For example, the fictional city in which IT takes place is called Derry. According to legend, he is the dark side of Bangor, hidden from ordinary people. That is why, speaking about the location of the city, the author indicates that it is located not far from the real Bangor, in Maine.

In fictional Derry, the author himself locates real-life Bangor locations, such as the water tower and sewers from It and the churchyard from Pet Cemetery. However, if we talk about the writer’s house, then it is difficult to name with certainty those works in which he is mentioned. And all because few people are familiar with its interior decoration. At the same time, we can definitely say that the image of the house was reflected by the Master in one way or another in each of his texts, written after meeting him. He is undoubtedly present wherever it is about writers and families, about people and the horrors that surround them.
