The first kindergarten with a rooftop playhub will appear in Moscow

photo: mos.ru/mka

A unique facility will appear in Moscow – the first kindergarten with a play hub on the roof. The eco-architecture of the entire space of the project instills in children a love for nature, allows them to move freely, without visual barriers and restrictions, while maintaining a logical comfortable zoning for both children and adults. This was told by the chief architect of Moscow, the first deputy chairman of the Moscow Committee for Architecture Sergey Kuznetsov.

All play areas are designed according to the principles of neurodynamics. This contributes to the formation of children’s speech, their susceptibility to learning and open communication, and also trains memory and other important skills. mos.ru/mka

“A unique children’s playground will be located on the roof of a one-story kindergarten building for 95 children and will be completely safe for kids. His pupils will have the opportunity not only to walk in the fresh air near the water, but also to develop in the atmosphere of natural spaces. This is a common practice in the world, but in Moscow, as far as I know, this is the first case,” said Sergey Kuznetsov, chief architect of Moscow.

A garden will be built on Simonovskaya embankment in Først residential complex. The concept of a rooftop play area in the natural landscape of a Scandinavian village was developed by Druzhba architectural bureau.

The site will recreate the image of the northern landscape, which is characterized by hills, glades, wooden and rocky surfaces, with fragrant herbs, moss, pine bark, wood chips and sand. A real children’s oasis that combines a holistic architectural image with full-fledged education.

Playhub will include a tower with sand lifting equipment, a spacious play kitchen, a play hill with a tunnel and a slide, nest carousels, hammock swings, a covered veranda with interchangeable bodyboard panels, in addition, a slatted fence with a chalk surface, a climbing wall and even a eustachian tube for secret conversations of little adventurers. The veranda offers a whole range of play scenarios: from outdoor activities to watching movies.

When the first kindergarten appeared in Russia, and What Russians borrowed from the Germans

Kindergartens have been known since tsarist times. The first preschool institutions opened in Russia in the 19th century. Moreover, the educational program was borrowed from the Germans. Then the gardens were paid, private and inaccessible to the common people. And only in the era of the USSR they became an integral part of Soviet life.

“Gardeners” and “flowers of life”

The system for educating preschoolers in a children’s team was developed by the German teacher Froebel. He founded the first institution in Germany in 1837, which later became the prototype of today’s kindergartens. In a philosophical context, Froebel was listed as an idealist who considered moral education the foundation of a future bright society. In his methodology, he worked out in detail the individual positive qualities of the child, including developing and outdoor games in the programs. However, colleagues found his developments too formalistic. Frobel called kindergarten teachers “gardeners”. And children, according to the scientist, are God’s flowers, which must be cultivated with love. The kindergarten, according to the idea of the founder, was supposed to oppose the natural movement of human sprouts to the world bogged down in technicalism.

In the well-known children’s schools at that time, the pupils were engaged in knitting, memorizing the catechism, and all this in complete silence. Froebel proposed his own didactic complex in complete opposition to the existing ones. According to his teachings, “gardeners” maintained frequent dialogues with children, figuratively described each surrounding phenomenon, studied colors with them using multi-colored woolen balls, used visual aids in the educational process – cubes, balls and wooden toys. Froebel was the first to designate a kindergarten as an institution for the free development of young children. This system has gained popularity in many countries, not bypassing Russia.

The first Russian kindergartens for wealthy pupils

After the opening of the first paid kindergarten in 1859 in Helsingfors, a similar institution appeared in 1863 in St. Petersburg. The founder of a private kindergarten was the wife of Professor Lugebil. For the next 10 years, paid children’s institutions appeared in Voronezh, Smolensk, Irkutsk, Moscow, Tbilisi. The organization and directions of educational work in these gardens completely depended on the views of the patron. In some, mostly discovered by Russian Germans, the Fröbel system was methodically implemented. In others, the curators and teachers were looking for new vectors of work, criticizing the German teacher and following the statements of Ushinsky, Tolstoy and other Russian teachers.

For example, in the Lugebil kindergarten, they tried to get away from strict routine and regulation, giving pupils the opportunity to choose games and activities to their liking under the constant supervision of the “gardener”. In the warm season, all active entertainment took place in nature – in flower and fruit gardens, and in winter, children had fun on ice slides. The educators invited parents to observe the children, at the same time giving them professional advice for a favorable atmosphere in the house. Lugebil often participated in games and activities in person, which won the respect and favor of most of the families of the pupils. She emphasized the development of the imagination, so not a single day passed without fairy tales and lively conversations in her institution. The private garden Simonovich, which existed in St. Petersburg in 1866-1869, was also distinguished by creative delights.gg. In the newspapers of that time, he was even noted as “the most reasonable.”

Public Kindergartens for the Poor

The first free public kindergarten, accessible to the lower strata of the population, was opened in St. Petersburg in 1866 at the charitable Society of Cheap Apartments for the offspring of housekeepers. Classes there were organized according to the same Froebel system. The oldest preschoolers studied the Holy Scriptures, prayers, weaving, drawing and appliqué work. The people’s garden was equipped with a sewing workshop for sewing children’s underwear, a laundry room, a shared kitchen, and even an elementary school for children whose parents worked abroad. Older children learned elementary reading and writing for an hour a day, as well as conversations with a teacher. Having not found a response in power circles, the people’s kindergarten that had existed for several years was closed due to lack of money.

Soviet boom

Kindergarten in the USSR was a ubiquitous phenomenon. /Photo: mtdata.ru

The system of kindergartens developed most rapidly in Russia during the Soviet period, when the problem of centralized financing was solved. From the first years of the existence of the USSR, dozens of children’s educational institutions were opened. The young state needed working hands, including women. Therefore, according to the idea of those in power, the young mother, as a potential worker, should not have been puzzled by the question “with whom to leave the child.” In addition to the fact that state kindergartens took responsibility for raising children from toddler age, preschool institutions were the first stage of secondary education, which was enshrined in the Constitution. The nursery and kindergarten were at first separate structures (children were admitted to the nursery at the age of 2 months, the kindergarten recruited pupils from the age of 3). At 19In 1959, these divisions were united into one institution, where they were guided by the unified program of education and training “from simple to complex” developed by the Ministry of Education. The united nursery-garden was divided into seven groups – 3 nurseries and 4 kindergartens.

Private kindergartens did not exist in the USSR.
