To all adults connected with Scout Troop 205:

The Boy Scouts of America has mandated that all adults who have direct contact with the boys complete Youth Protection Training.  This includes Scouts who have recently turned 18, and are still involved in the troop.  The free training is done online, and took me about 30 minutes.  After the training, there is a short test to take before receiving a certificate.  The training is valid for two years, and then must be renewed.

The free training is available at www.bsaswmc.org.  Look for the eLearning link on the home page.  It showed up on the right side of the screen on my computer.  The Youth Protection Training course is available under the category "General".  Though the training is free, you may need to set up an account with a password to accomplish this.

Scoutmaster Sydney will have his laptop in the scout office at church during troop meetings so you can take the training then if that is more convenient.

When you have completed the training, please print out your certificate and give it to me, Kathi Campbell, or Paul Sydney.  (They will get the copy of your certificate to me.)  Then, I will keep records to assure that we are complying with BSA policy.

At this time, the records I have show that only the following five people have completed the Youth Protection Training within the past two years:

Paul Sydney (5/7/06)

Rick Cordes (5/31/06)

Mark Blazek (4/23/06)

John Hill (4/18/06)

Andrew Vorbrich (5/10/07).

If you have completed the training, but are not on this list, please get me a copy of your completion certificate.

The training is not difficult, and is based on common sense, but is required by the Boy Scouts of America.  If you have direct contact with any of the boys (including Boards of Review, merit badge counselor, chaperone, etc.), please make sure that you take this training as soon as possible.  Even if you do not regularly have contact with the boys, if you might do something sometime, please take this training in advance so that you are qualified.

Thank you.
